Mortal Kombat 9 Preview

A new Mortal Kombat game is coming out in exactly a month from today on April 19th, 2011 for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Many of the original characters are back, as well as some of the original fatalities and move sets.

A playable demo is currently available for the Playstation 3's paid upgraded online subscribers. Once the demo is downloaded, you instantly have access to four main characters to fight as: Scorpion, Sub Zero, Johnny Cage, and Milenna.

www.WikiGameGuides.com has given their first impressions on the demo and offer up some very good points in this video:

With the detailed move lists and fatalities, this game is set up where it would be easy for new Kombatants to pick up and for veterans to enjoy the challenge of piecing together large combinations of moves which the other player won't be able to block.

Ways to do this are moves which can be referred to as "juggling" moves which new fighting gamers may not be used to. Games such as Marvel vs. Capcom and Street Fighter are games which use those moves to their fullest advantage. The most common move in Mortal Kombat which is a juggle move is the uppercut which tosses the opponent in the air and you can take advantage while they are helpless for a second or two.

Things like this and the revert back to the 2D, linear playing style make this a possible rebirth of the series and an upgrade from previous fails like the Sub Zero back story, DC Comics mixup, etc. I will definitely be purchasing it for Xbox 360 and will provide a review once my pre-order comes in.
